Discover the joy of the pottery wheel at Galerie Acanthus Gallery! This beginner‑friendly workshop is the perfect way to try wheel‑throwing with no long‑term commitment. Come in, relax, and enjoy getting your hands muddy as you explore the magic of clay.
Our instructor, Owen Comeau, will guide you through the basics—centering the clay, shaping forms, and learning simple techniques. You’ll have the chance to make several pieces, and you’ll be able to choose two favourites for our team to finish, glaze, and fire for you.
Whether you create a bowl, tumbler, or small vase, the goal is to enjoy the experience and let the clay lead the way.
No previous pottery experience is required.
The instructor for this workshop, Owen Comeau, is a fine ceramic artist with extensive knowledge in pottery and ceramics.
This workshop focuses on the experience, not perfection. Every potter starts with wobbly pieces, and that’s part of the fun. Be patient with yourself, enjoy the process, and celebrate the joy of trying something new!
Each class is 3 hours long, including clean-up time. Participants should expect approximately 2½ hours of pottery work, with the final 20–30 minutes reserved for cleaning and closing procedures.
A reservation is required to secure your spot.
What’s included:
All you need to bring is your creativity and a willingness to get muddy!
Throwing: We begin with a demonstration on how to use the pottery wheel. Then it’s your turn to throw! Wheel‑throwing can feel challenging at first, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. Our instructor will support you throughout the session.
Glazing & Pickup:
Time will be reserved at the end of class for clean-up. Participants are responsible for cleaning their wheel and workspace.
Currently, there are dates for this workshop in June and July. On these dates, it will be offered twice per day: during mornings (9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.) and afternoons (1:45 p.m. – 4:45 p.m.). For the date you choose, you can choose between the morning or afternoon time slot. Registration is only valid for one of these slots.
